Transportation Funding - Finally

Finally, it appears that an omnibus transportation bill will be headed to the governor's desk to be signed into law.
It was not easy; nothing ever is in the Pennsylvania General Assembly, which is brimming with individuals that are out of touch with their constituents and who shed common sense the more entrenched they become as our "leaders".
The breadth of support for this bill was breathtakingly broad and bipartisan among members of the public, yet many Representatives, shamefully including Republican Leader Mike Turzai and Democratic Leader Frank Dermody, were willing to throw the baby out of with the bath water, voting against it, willing to risk a bridge collapse calamity and to inflict on us the decimation of public transit.  It is rare that major legislation would pass despite the opposition of both major party leaders, but the grass roots eventually overpowered those that acted purely for political reasons, making an obscene gesture to the public.
Whether the naysayers like it or not, bridge and road repair and maintenance will soon be accelerated, new life will be injected into public transit, and tens of thousands of jobs in and related to the construction industry will be created or maintained.
The vote in favor of transportation funding should have been unanimous (the final tally was 104-95), but a good bill ultimately passed.  It is a hopeful day in Pennsylvania.
