Upper St. Clair District Hires New Athletic Director

Former North Hills School District AD Kevin Deitrick leaving Duquesne University for USC job.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - To lead the Upper St. Clair School District’s athletic programs into the future, school directors turned to the past. Kevin Deitrick, currently Duquesne University’s assistant athletic director for student support services, has been hired as the district’s new athletic director and will begin his new duties in late May.

Deitrick succeeds Matt Mellinger, who was removed as athletic director in September. William Englert has served as interim athletic director since October.

Deitrick worked for the district from 1999 to 2005 in various roles that included a high school social studies teacher, assistant principal, assistant athletic director and assistant basketball coach. He called the district ā€œa special placeā€ that shaped his personal educational philosophy.

ā€œHaving an impact on kids every single day is what has drawn me back to the high school environment. In high school, you can positively affect kids each and every day,ā€ he said. ā€œPlus, I love working with the coaches, faculty and the other athletic directors in the WPIAL. Athletics can take an education beyond the school walls.ā€

In addition to working for Duquesne, Deitrick also spent three years as the North Hills School District’s director of activities and athletics. He also served as an assistant principal and principal in the North Allegheny School District and has been an adjunct history professor at Duquesne.

Deitrick earned a doctorate in educational instructional leadership and master’s degree in history from Duquesne. He completed bachelor’s degrees in history and education from Washington & Jefferson College. Deitrick also hold he holds K-12 principal and social studies secondary education certifications.

He is a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Directors Association, the National Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Associations, the National Academic Advising Association and the National Association of Academic Advisors for Athletics.
