Upper St. Clair High School Gets New Principal

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Timothy Wagner, Upper St. Clair High School associate principal for program planning and innovation, will become the school's new principal effective July 1. He replaces Louis Angelo, who has been promoted to director of operations and facilities and will over see the district's facilities, maintenance, custodial services and transportation departments.

The moves are part of an overall district restructuring plan school directors approved last week.

"As an Upper St. Clair graduate, Dr. Wagner has deep roots in our community. He has taught at every level within our school district and has a depth of knowledge that is difficult to match,” district Superintendent John T. Rozzo said in a statement. “He has demonstrated tremendous leadership throughout his tenure and will make a positive impact as our high school principal.”

Wagner joined the district in 2007 as an elementary school teacher. He also taught middle-level English and social studies and has served as a gifted education coordinator for students in grades 7-12. He served as the middle school English language arts curriculum leader from 2013-15 before assuming his current role.

In 2017, Wagner was honored with the Outstanding Young Alumnus Award from Washington & Jefferson College. He earned similar accolades for his leadership endeavors including the University of Pittsburgh School of Education's 2017 Early Career Award. In 2014, he received the Outstanding Young Educator Award from the Pennsylvania Association for Supervision and Curriculum Development. The award recognizes educators who have made an impact on educating the whole child, leadership and contributions to the profession. Two years later, in the fall of 2016, PASCD named him an Emerging Leader. The PASCD Emerging Leader program recognizes and prepares young, promising educators to influence education programs, policy and practice at the state level.

Wagner has a bachelor's degree in child development and education from Washington & Jefferson College. In addition, he holds two degrees from the University of Pittsburgh: a master's degree in applied developmental psychology and a doctorate in education in administrative and policy studies. His dissertation research focused on the public school experience of child refugees.

Wagner also is actively involved in several local community organizations including the Historical Society of Upper St. Clair. He previously served on the boards of the Community Foundation of Upper St. Clair and Beverly’s Birthdays.

Dan Beck and Dan Zelenski will continue to serve as assistant principals at the high school. Wagner’s current position will not be filled as the newly created assistant to the superintendent position will provide additional oversight of the high school program.

Angelo has served as the Upper St. Clair High School principal since 2015. He began his career in Upper St. Clair as a high school English teacher from 1999 through 2004. From 2004-o6, he served as the athletic director for his high school alma mater, Baldwin High School. In November 2006, he returned to Upper St. Clair as a high school assistant principal and was promoted to associate principal in 2012.

Upper St. Clair High School has been recognized for several significant accomplishments under Angelo’s leadership. This spring the high school was named among the top two percent of high schools in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report. In 2018, USCHS students achieved the region’s top scores on both the ACT and the SAT. In 2017, the high school was named one of only 25 schools nationwide to be selected as a national model of Innovative Successful Practices by the Successful Practices Network and AASA, The School Superintendents Association.

Angelo holds a bachelor’s degree from Florida State University, a master’s degree from Duquesne University, and a doctoral degree in educational leadership and management from Drexel University. He resides in Peters Township with his wife, Whitney, their sons Louis and Jonathan,
