Upper St. Clair Homecoming Week: Football, Festivites And More
Plenty is going on at the high school this week. Find out here where and when the events will occur.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - It’s Homecoming Week at Upper ST. Clair High School and there are a variety of events and activities scheduled. Here’s what you need to know:
On Oct. 10, high school students will attend a program presented by Eric McElvenny, an endurance athlete and U.S. Marine veteran. While serving his third tour in Afghanistan, he lost his right leg below the knee to an IED but overcame the challenges of his injury to compete in an Ironman Triathlon.
“Eric served as the featured speaker for the class of 2018’s baccalaureate program,” high school principal Lou Angelo said. “His message of embracing challenge is powerful.”

On Oct. 11, a school pep rally will be held at 1:45 p.m. 11 in the high school gymnasium. The homecoming court will be honored and the marching band, cheerleaders and hip-hop team will perform.
Homecoming Weekend kicks off on Oct. 12 with the 2018 Upper St. Clair Halls of Fame Induction at 3:30 p.m. Founded in 2000, the halls honor those who have distinguished themselves in academics, the arts, or athletics at the high school, collegiate or professional level. The 2018 inductees are

- Academic Hall of Fame: John M. Bornyas, retired administrator; Melissa Lentz, class of 2000; Karen Pillar, class of 1988; Jean Kogut Raazi, class of 1990; Shailesh Rao, class of 1989; and Glenn C. Rice, class of 1974
- Arts Hall of Fame: Susan Lynn Castriota, class of 1975; and Chuck Rea, class of 1995
- Athletic Hall of Fame: Jerry Berteotti, class of 1989; and Austin Wilding, class of 2012
The Panthers take on the Moon Area High School Tigers at 7:45 p.m. in the stadium and halftime will feature the introduction of the homecoming court and crowning of the homecoming king and queen. Candidates for queen include seniors: Allison DelliCarri, Julia Geisler, Stephanie Grunwald, Sarah Slagle and Rachel Tudi. Senior vying for king include Jack Fitzpatrick, Luke Geisler, Sean Martin, Matt McCormick and Chris Pantelis.
Following the game, the inaugural Homecoming 5th Quarter event will occur at Gilfillan Farm. The event is an opportunity for alumni from all classes to come together, catch up and begin a new Upper St. Clair tradition. Tickets are $10, which includes parking before the game at Gilfillan Farm, a ticket to the football game and refreshments. Alumni can register and pay online.
On Oct. 13, the annual Homecoming Dance will occur from 7:30 p.m. to 10 p.m in the high school gymnasium. Tickets are on sale and cost 10 per person pre-sale or $20 online after Friday’s lunch mod or at the door.
