Upper St. Clair Planning 43rd Annual Band Festival

In addition to the home band, expect to hear the University of Pittsburgh band and eight other high school bands.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Marching bands from nine area high schools and the University of Pittsburgh will participate in the 43rd annual Upper St. Clair Marching Band Festival. The event, hosted by the Upper St. Clair Band Parents Association, will occur Sept. 29 at 7 p.m. at the high school stadium.

Besides Upper St. Clair, other participating high schools are Avella, Baldwin, Brashear, Keystone Oaks, Mt. Lebanon, South Park, Thomas Jefferson and West Mifflin Area. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students. They are available in advance from any USC band student or can be purchased at the gate.

What can you expect from the home band? The USC Marching Band will perform its festival show, “Magic,” which opens with The Beatles' “Magical Mystery Tour,” and Jefferson Airplane's “White Rabbit.” The band’s second movement is “The Sorcerer's Apprentice,” followed by music from Harry Potter. The fourth movement is Bruno Mars' “24K Magic,” and the band will finish with more Harry Potter music, “Dumbledor's Army.”

The 2018 Upper St. Clair High School Panther Marching Band is composed 116 musicians, guard, Pantherettes and majorettes. The band performs at athletic events, parades and festivals throughout the region and around the country. The band has won awards at festivals and competitions throughout the United States and Canada.

The band is under the direction of Don Pickell and led on the field by Head Drum Major Miranda Day and Assistant Drum Major Matthew McCormick.
