Upper St. Clair To Stage Mock Crash Event

The annual activity is meant to highlight the dangers of drinking and driving.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - It’s an annual event at Upper St. Clair High School and it’s not a fun one. But the school will hold its yearly mock crash exercise May 22 in the side lot of Westminster Presbyterian Church.

The staged crash is meant to encourage responsible drinking and will feature a wrecked vehicle at the high school theater entrance the week of May 21 to remind students of the effects of drinking and driving.

First responders and several high school students will enact the scene of an alcohol-related crash. The “crash” will occur during each lunch period, with students transported to and from the crash scene via shuttles.

Although the mock crash event is held every year before the prom, those attending this year’s June 5 prom at Heinz Field have to travel to and from Downtown via a school-sponsored bus or auto service.

The mock crash is a joint effort of the Upper St. Clair Police, the Upper St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department and Tri-Community EMS. Each year, Bert L. Ghelarducci Jr. & Sons, an auto repair shop in Bridgeville, provides the vehicles used in the mock crash.
