USC District Approves $16 Million Improvement Plan

Taxes likely to rise for two years to pay for new high school swimming pool, high school stadium upgrade and other projects.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Construction is slated to begin next year on an ambitious Upper St. Clair High School capital improvements project that likely will trigger two years of tax hikes for district property owners.

School directors have approved a board committee plan to build an eight-lane pool at the high school; construct a high school stadium multi-use complex and add a new structure to the Boyce Athletic Field facilities. The district also will remove a pedestrian bridge at the high school and repave the high school parking lot.

“The new facilities will provide a greater level of service to our students and our community members,” superintendent Dr. Patrick O’Toole said.

To pay for the $16 million cost of the projects, the district tentatively plans to raise taxes 0.15 mills in 2018-19 and 0.16 mills in 2019-20. The amount of the tax hike could drop depending on how much revenue is generated by new commercial and residential developments.

The projects are expected to be completed before the start of the 2019-20 school year.
