Chen might not personally know Department of Housing and Urban Development Secretary Dr. Ben Carson But he has been selected a 2017 Recognized Carson Scholar, a program founded by the noted neurosurgeon and former Republican presidential candidate.

The program honors students in grade four through 12 for their commitment to making a difference in their community, according to Katie Damaroda, Carson Scholars Fund scholarship director.
