USC Senior's Work Showcased At National Medical Symposium
It's the second year in a row Kevin Chen has been recognized by the American Medical Informatics Association.

UPPER ST. CLAIR, PA - Keven Chen, an Upper St. Clair High School senior, recently participated in the American Medical Informatics Association’s 2017 High School Scholars Program. His research paper, “A Deep Learning Approach to Cancer Gene Expression” was admitted for a poster presentation at the association’s recent 2017 symposium in Washington, D.C.
Chen utilized a deep learning model to create low-dimensioned abstractions from noisy, high-dimensioned cancer gene expression data. The results of the study demonstrated the biological and clinical relevance of a deep learning approach to cancer gene expression data analysis.
Chen’s 2016 research paper, “A Comparison of Methods for Identifying Direct Causal Influences,” also was selected for a poster presentation during the association’s 2016 symposium.. The scientific organization sponsors meetings, education, policy, and research programs.
