95 year-old George Scott is Ready to Race in the Penn Relays!

Ann's Choice resident George Scott participates in his second Penn Relays

Warminster, PA - On your marks, get set, go! Ninety-five-year-old Ann’s Choice retirement community resident George “Scottie” Scott will be competing in his second consecutive Penn Relays. Once again, Mr. Scott will test his athletic abilities with the goal of bringing home his second gold medal.

Competitors of all ages will be on hand for this year’s Penn Relays track and field events hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. This year marks the 121st running of the historic Penn Relays, behind only the Olympics and the World Championship as the most-attended track and field event in the world.

In 2015, Mr. Scott participated in his first Penn Relays racing in the 100-meter dash. Mr. Scott won in his age bracket and received his first Penn Relay gold medal. For the 2016 Penn Relays Mr. Scott will again race in the 100-meter dash with the hope of securing his second straight gold.

This year, Mr. Scott will be moving into the 95–99-year-old bracket. “I’ll be the youngest competitor once again. Some people think this bracket will give me an advantage. However, while my competitors may be older, they have the experience to compensate,” said Mr. Scott. To prepare himself for the fierce competition of this year’s events, Mr. Scott plays basketball at the local YMCA, dances and works out at the fitness center at Ann’s Choice.

The fitness center at Ann’s Choice is designed to meet the needs of all fitness levels, including those of a gold medal winner. The fitness center includes treadmills, recumbent bicycles, elliptical trainers, assorted dumbbells, wrist and ankle weights and weight resistance machines. “The fitness center really helps with my strength conditioning,” said Mr. Scott. “I get most of my cardio from basketball and dancing, but to build up strength, I prefer to use the weight machines in the fitness center.”
