ADA Accessibility Coming To Five Mile Woods
Lower Makefield Township has received a $10,000 PECO grant to create ADA accessibility at the forest preserve.

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA âADA accessibility is coming to Five Mile Woods.
The township recently announced that it has received a $10,000 grant courtesy of PECOâs Green Region Open Space program.
The grant will be used to create ADA accessibility at Five Mile Woods, a project that was identified as a need by the Township Parks and Recreation ADA Transition Plan.

Officials said the plan received support from township supervisors, the Disability Advisory Board, and the Park and Recreation Advisory Board.

- Updating restrooms to meet current ADA standards.
- Updating the visitors center to meet current ADA standards.
- Adding handicapped parking with proper striping and signage.
- Creating safe access from the parking lot to the visitor entrance.
- Creating new pathway with accessibility by linking to the existing boardwalk.
- Repairing the existing boardwalk by widening, fixing missing boards, increasing width and using adequate slope and transition measurements to meet ADA requirements.
Meanwhile, supervisors are working to create connectivity for pedestrians throughout the township.
After years of planning, the Woodside Bikepath is almost complete.
The project will connect the section with the Delaware Canal Towpath and the Scudder Falls Bridge.
