Area Students Receive Ann’s Choice Scholarship
The recipients earned the honors by completing at least 1,000 hours of work at the retirement village.
As the school year comes to a close, Ann’s Choice held its own graduation ceremony Wednesday night, at which 55 local high school students who work at the retirement community received over $210,000 in scholarships.
The ceremony was held in the Chapel at Ann’s Choice at 7 p.m. Each student received a scholarship of $1,000 - $500 per semester for four years of full-time undergraduate study, according to a press release issued by Ann’s Choice.
“The Scholars’ Fund program gives the hard-working student employees a wonderful opportunity to advance their education,” said Ann’s Choice Director of Philanthropy Susan Abtouche.

“I’m incredibly happy,” Carter said, “I would like to give a giant thank you to everyone involved with the scholarship, this is my future and it means a lot to me.”

Carter plans to attend Gwynedd-Mercy College this fall, shooting for a degree in nursing, with hopes of landing a job back at Ann’s Choice as a registered nurse.
The Ann’s Choice Scholars’ Fund began in 2005, raising a total of $1,174,944 since then. Funding for the Scholars’ Fund is provided by voluntary donations made by residents and staff as well as through various fundraisers and other individual contributions.
The fund received 817 donations this year.
Recipients of the scholarship must first meet certain requirements as set by the application. Eligibility is determined by at least 1,000 hours of work completed at Ann’s Choice over a consecutive two-year period, a good work record, and intent to enroll in college or a trade school as a full-time student.
Keynote speaker and resident LJ Herman told the crowd of soon to be graduates from her wooden rocking chair on stage that, “Your life is not where you’ve been; It’s not where you are now; It’s where you’re going to end up.”
