WARMINSTER, PA —They lost their colleagues to cancer. But members of the Log College Middle School want to honor their memory by building an outdoor classroom in the courtyard that will also serve as a memorial.

Organizers are holding a "Designer Bag Bingo" fundraiser Friday that will raise funds in hopes of constructing the classroom over the winter for use next spring, event co-organizer Michelle Ciliberto told Patch Wednesday.

Bingo starts at 7 p.m. (doors open at 6 p.m.) at the St. Cyrill of Jerusalem, 1410 Almhouse Road in Jamison.

Tickets are $30 in advance and $35 at the door. Tables can be reserved for groups of eight or more.

Over the years we have lost several colleagues unexpectedly. After losing someone who had worked in our building, and played such a huge role in helping students, a group of teachers began talking about doing something special to honor him. When one of the teachers who came up with the idea suddenly became sick and passed away, the faculty and staff all came together to work on turning the idea of an outdoor memorial classroom into a reality," Ciliberto said.

The cost of the ticket includes 12 rounds of bingo. One authentic designer bag will be awarded for each round. Other raffles include an iPad, baskets and a 50/50.

I am the co-organizer, along with Matt Market, of the bingo, but numerous teachers have helped and donated.

Ciliberto said a flower sale took place last spring to raise money where many teachers volunteered over a weekend to sell plants. For that, student groups also volunteered to help.

"While successful, it didn’t raise enough money, hence our Bingo fundraiser. Faculty and staff members, along with many local businesses have donated prizes," said Ciliberto, who is co-organizing the event with teacher Matt Market.

She said teachers who aren’t playing bingo will be volunteering that night to help ensure the event runs smoothly.

"Ultimately, it is to benefit the students of Log college middle school and the centennial community. We thought this was the perfect way to honor their memory in a way that would benefit the community for years to come," Ciliberto said.
