Whats in a color

In the vast amount of years I have graced this wonderful planet I find a need occasionally to "test" or experiment with how people react to others and the way they act or look or both.

With this in mind recently for several reasons I decided to dye my hair a beautiful color of dark extreme Lavender. Now mind you I am well over fifty and in my youth seeing I lived in the Punk Rock era my hair has been almost every color so this is not new to me.

With the hair being of a unusual color it brought back memories of how way back when people treated me, which I thought the people of today had moved past the judging of others by the way they look. But to my surprise I was so very wrong.

Now mind you my original color is dark black however I have not been that color since well just since, haha.  However my normal is very light blonde. In the progression of research I realized that through out the years and moving up the corporate ladder I caught more people off guard when I was sporting blonde hair, most individuals would even state to me, "oh I assumed you were just another dumb blonde" I mean please people I could probably talk circles around most of the men who crossed my path in business. But however they (they being men and women) were surprised when I could think and speak with such intelligence.

However I still in my years of writing needed to know if changing the color would effect how people treated me and believe me it did, when the hair was dark I was treated by those who didn't know me with a bit more respect.

So was it to my surprise when I feeling great about the new choice in hair color had a reality check with people I cross paths with each and every day
Seeing I do work a regular job, in a office, no body really sees me, but the individuals I work with on a whole have a issue with the choice, the boss while most of the time is discriminating against someone (Race, origin, political preference, and so on) hasn't actually said anything to me however you can tell by the silence and snide comments he has made to others about "purple" he does not like.

I choose to go to the local food store and was surprised that most of the people who speak to me didn't, how shallow!

So in my research I have realized that most people have not changed their pig headed ways of thinking. Most people are stuck in their parents ways and now I can understand how half of the younger population is treated.

I do however give credit to those who choose to be different, they are the true future leaders for with the attitude that they like themselves enough to express themselves in color shows strength.

In realizing how discriminating this I realize that most of those out there who point laugh and or just downright ignore are the ones who have the biggest issues.

I cannot say how long I will keep this color, but for now I will for there is power in the fact that a person has chosen to stand proud and be who they are, there is power in color, whether it be the color of ones hair or ones skin. There is power in the uniqueness of being ones self. There is power in never allowing someone ignorant to rock your world!
