A flight instructor from Bucks County was injured in a Friday morning helicopter crash in New Jersey, authorities said. The Robinson R22 helicopter made a hard landing in a marsh area west of Ocean City Municipal Airport at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, according to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

A student pilot identified as 64-year-old Carol Gray, of Bear, Del., and her flight instructor, Harvey Shubart, 62, of Doylestown, Pa. and Ocean City, were still inside the helicopter when police and fire personnel responded to the scene.

They were both able to get out of the helicopter and walk away from the craft on their own, police said. They were treated by fire personnel and taken to Shore Memorial for non-life threatening injuries. They were the only occupants of the helicopter.

Shubart owns the helicopter and is a flight instructor. He was teaching Gray how to hover when they lost control of the vehicle and made a hard landing in the marshes, but it is not known what contributed directly to the accident, police said. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is investigating.

The helicopter was also heavily damaged, according to 6 ABC. The top rotor appeared to be sheared off.
