The investigation into Cordenner and Sweigard began on Feb. 21 when New Hanover Police responded at approximately 1:21 a.m. to a 911 call on Colflesh Road for someone prowling outside of a residence.

When officers arrived, they found Cordenner—the resident’s ex-boyfriend—in the home’s driveway in possession of night vision goggles, a loaded 9mm Taurus G2c firearm, and a loaded magazine.

When officers confronted Cordenner, he became combative and attempted to resist arrest. A check by law enforcement found that Cordenner does not have a concealed carry permit and is not legally allowed to possess a firearm due to a prior felony conviction.

Detectives found that the recovered Taurus firearm was purchased by Sweigard on Oct. 5, 2023.

Law enforcement executed a search warrant at Cordenner’s residence, which resulted in the seizure of a black suppressor, taser, ballistics vest, holsters, various ammunition containers, numerous rounds of ammunition, and three additional firearms.

The firearms were an American Tactical AR-15 style firearm, purchased by Sweigard on Nov. 7, 2023; a Maverick Arms 12-guage shotgun, purchased by Sweigard on June 10, 2023; and a .22 caliber long rifle with a scope.

None of the firearms purchased by Sweigard were reported lost or stolen, authorities said.

Cordenner was initially arrested on the night of the incident and on Feb. 24, additional charges were added.

He is charged with multiple felony counts of Person Not to Possess a Firearm, Firearms Not to be Carried Without a License, Prohibited Offensive Weapons, Illegal Transfer of a Firearm, Resisting Arrest, Loitering and Prowling at Night, and other firearms charges.

He was arraigned before District Justice Murt, who set bail at $500,000 cash. A bail review hearing was held on Feb. 26 in front of Court of Common Pleas Judge Thomas M. DelRicci, who reduced bail to $250,000 cash.

Both defendants were remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing for Cordenner and Sweigard is scheduled for 9:15 a.m., March 5, before Magisterial District Judge Maurice K. Saylor.
