WARMINSTER, PA — 2 x 2 x 2.

It's not a mathematics equation. However, officials in the Centennial School District hope that students do the math to take advantage of this pathway model designed to help students select required and elective courses based on current and future career and educational goals.

“Centennial School District’s vision statement says CSD will ensure students are prepared for post-secondary education, career, and life readiness," Superintendent Dana T. Bedden said. "Over the past few years, we have embarked on making significant changes that have supported our students in becoming college-, career-, and life-ready. CSD has always empowered students to shape their futures by taking advantage of opportunities to explore their interests and develop their talents. However, we recognize that planning for the next several years of their life can be daunting, so creating the 2 x 2 x 2 model, which provides pathway options into two-year chunks, will help our students and families navigate their educational opportunities and provide flexibility.”

The video of the model, presented to the school board, is designed to help students consider future career and educational goals when selecting required and elective courses and paths of study.

While Centennial School District has always provided its high school students with choice,
reimagining our pathways in two-year chunks can help students and families navigate
educational opportunities today while leaving doors to future opportunities open.

Instead of a linear path where every decision needs to be predetermined by the time you’re a high
school junior, a 2 x 2 x 2 pathway allows for dynamic flexibility.

The first two-year segment of the 2 x 2 x 2 model comprises junior and senior years at WTHS.

As core course graduation requirements are completed, students can focus on elective
coursework in a specific Panther Pathway if desired. Students can choose from pathways that lead to careers in Arts and Humanities, Health and Human Services, Innovation, Industry and Engineering, Business, Finance, Informational Technology, and Communications or split their daily schedule between the high school and Middle Bucks Institute of Technology, which offers 21 state-approved career pathway programs organized around give broad career pathways that can lead to industry certification or dual enrollment credits.

The second component of the two-year segment of the 2 x 2 x 2 model provides an opportunity for qualifying high school students who want to jump-start their post-secondary education.

Our partnerships with Bucks County Community College, Montgomery County Community College, and now Harrisburg University of Science and Technology allow students who have completed all available elective coursework in their Panther Pathway to enroll in college courses while at the high school.

This option allows students to acquire college credit while pursuing workforce credentials in various areas as they finish required high school coursework.

The final component of the two-year segment of the 2 x 2 x 2 model represents junior and
senior postsecondary years where students may choose to finish with an Associate’s degree,
join the workforce, or enroll in one of our guaranteed admissions 4-year institution partners if
qualified (Bloomsburg University, Lock Haven University, and Mansfield University), automatic
admissions partnership agreement with Bucks County Community College or another
institution of their choice based on that institution's criteria.
