Centennial Wins Bucks Big Brother Big Sister Award

Warminster-based Centennial was honored for being the 2024 school district partner of the year.

WARMINSTER, PA —The Centennial School District has been named the recipient of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Bucks County 2024 School District Partner of the Year Award.

The "High School Bigs Program" was implemented in the district in the 2022-2023 school year.

The district's administration, notably Assistant Superintendent Dennis Best, was commended by school officials for accepting the pilot program proposal for McDonald Elementary School, Schools Superintendent Dana Bedden said.

The superintendent offered gratitude to the elementary school staff —including Susan Stackhouse and Sue Govan —for their support in making the experience possible for students for two consecutive years.

Bedden also acknowledged the William Tennent High School administration, with particular recognition to Thomas Gilroy, recipient of the 2024 School-Based Liaison of the Year Award.

"His exceptional dedication to supporting the program significantly contributes to the strength of the program," school officials said.

"Groundbreaking outcomes" observed in Centennial during 2023-2024 school year included improved behavior, confidence, school connectedness, enhanced future outlook, and a heightened commitment to mentoring, Bedden said.

Centennial School District will be attending the Big Brothers Big Sisters annual "BIG STORIES" Partner Appreciation & Graduation Ceremony to accept the awards publicly among fellow district liaisons, community partners, and county legislators. The celebration also honors the 2024 graduates.
