Citations Coming For Lower Bucks Co. Drivers With Snow On Vehicles

Police in Lower Bucks County communities are stepping up enforcement over snow-covered vehicles and will dole out fines to drivers.

LOWER BUCKS COUNTY, PA — If you want to drive with snow on the top of your car, roll the dice and take your chance. Police in Lower Bucks County communities are citing drivers who do just that following Sunday's storm and the little dusting of snow that appeared on Wednesday morning.

The Warminster Township Police Department is doing just that. On Tuesday, Warminster Police announced that they are stepping up enforcement against drivers who fail to clear snow from their vehicles.

An officer in Warminster Township stopped and cited a driver Tuesday morning on East Street Road after noticing the windshield had only a small patch of snow removed, according to an Action News 6 report.

Communities in the Philadelphia region received over 10 inches to more than two feet of snow throughout the Philadelphia region from Sunday's blizzard. A dusting covered roads and driveways on Wednesday morning.

"Please clean your car off before traveling. Snow flying off cars can cause accidents, injury, and damage to other vehicles. Please be a courteous driver," Warminster Police said in a press release.

Pennsylvania law requires drivers to clear snow and ice from their vehicles before driving.

In Middletown Township, police said residents should not get into their vehicles until all snow and ice is removed.

Police noted that on Christmas Day in 2005, Christine Lambert of Palmer Township in the Lehigh Valley was killed by a chunk of ice that blew off the top of a box truck outside of Jim Thorpe.

"Christine's Law" was enacted in 2022 and now allows officers to write citations for those putting others at risk. Click here to read the law

"Remove all ice and ALL snow from your vehicle before going on the road or you could face citations," police said. "If we are being honest, though, it shouldn't be the citation that motivates you to complete this task. Be a responsible driver in all seasons, and if you can help an elderly, disabled, or vertically challenged neighbor, we encourage that too."
