Curious George Visits Kiddie Academy

The Kiddie Academy Storytime LIVE! event went national on Saturday morning as all 90 locations held a simultaneous storytelling with a special guest appearance.

Children and their families were treated to a free event on Saturday morning at Kiddie Academies across the nation as part of their first Storytime LIVE! event. In Warminster, approximately 50 children read Curious George and then were able to meet George in person.

The event was part of a nationwide effort by Kiddie Academy where all 90 locations held a story reading and other activities from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

At the location in on Veterans Way, children and their families enjoyed a live reading of Curious George, face painting, coloring, snacks, and a special guest appearance from Curious George himself.

"It's a nice touch," said parent Linda Docar of Newtown. Docar's son, Adam, has been enrolled at Kiddie Academy since last May. "Having George come is like the icing on the cake," she said.

The Kiddie Academy in Warminster has been open and operated by Christopher Roehl for the last four years.

"Working here has been a great experience," Roehl said. Roehl said that the live story time event was a great idea for the community and for families.

In addition to being a franchise owner, Roehl is also a parent of two children enrolled in the academy. Both of Roehl's daughters have attended the day care center, with his youngest graduating later this year, Roehl said.

Roehl said Saturday that he did not know if the event would become a regularly scheduled addition to the Kiddie Academy.

The book reading was done by Head Teacher Tara Wood, from Southampton Township.

Wood, who has worked at the Warminster location since 2010, has been working in the field of early childhood care for the last decade.

"It's been awesome working here," Wood said, "It's great to see so many people come out today, especially those who aren't enrolled here."

Before coming to the Kiddie Academy in Warminster, Wood worked at a day care center in Yardley.

The Kiddie Academy is a education-based child care facility, serving families and their children ages 6 weeks to 12 years old. For more information, call Christopher Roehl at 215-443-5988.
