Drinking Water Discussion Set In Warminster

The issue is an important one in Warminster, where, in the past, chemicals known as PFAs have been detected in the water.

WARMINSTER, PA — Local environmental officials will host presentation about the area's drinking water in Warminster on Monday evening.

The presentation, "The Water We Drink," will be given by Ken Hayes, chairman of the Warminster Environmental Advisory Council, and Tim Hagey, Warminster Municipal Authority's general manager.

It is set for 7 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 25, at the Warminster Township Building, at 401 Gibson Ave.

Monday's event will be the first presentation of the 2019 Environmental Education Series.

The presentation will focus on where Warminster's drinking water comes from and what is in it, as well as how officials work to keep it safe.

The issue is an important one in Warminster, where, in the past, chemicals known as PFAs have been detected in the water. The chemicals are believed to have leached into the area's groundwater from a firefighting foam used at the Naval Air Station Joint Reserve Base in Willow Grove.

This month, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency said it will begin setting limits this year on PFAs — two man-made chemicals found widely in soil and water that are linked to cancer and other illnesses. Former EPA head Scott Pruitt had promised last year to address the chemicals.
