Shop Rite of Warminster and a local church teamed up Saturday to collect food for families in Bucks and Montgomery counties this holiday.

WARMINSTER, PA —With the holidays approaching, an area grocer and local church are teamed up Saturday to help a food bank make sure those less fortunate don't go hungry in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

The Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church and Shop Rite of Warminster are holding a Fill the Holiday Truck drive Saturday at the Shop Rite on W. Street Road. The event is rain or shine.

The Warminster Food Bank said the group collected 2,000 pounds of food.

"A Special Holiday thanks to Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church and Cowhey Family Shoprite of Warminster for collecting a ton of food. We thank all who participated and stood in the cold to help local families in need," the food bank posted on Facebook.

“Unfortunately, food insecurity is a year-round problem,” said Mike Cerino, director of the Warminster Food Bank. “During this season of giving, we urge people to come out, make a donation of non-perishable food items and groceries and help us brighten the holiday season for those who are experiencing food insecurity in our local communities.”

The Warminster Food Bank feeds more than 650 families each month in Bucks and Montgomery counties with food donated by individuals and businesses and feeds more than 10,000 people a year.

The Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church provided a holiday-themed, decorated truck for the event, and volunteers from the church’s mission team will be on hand to work with Shop Rite employees and customers to fill the truck with food and non-perishables.

“Neshaminy-Warwick Presbyterian Church has had a long history of sponsoring community food drives for the Warminster Food Bank and other area pantries,” said Barbara Louderback of the NWPC Mission Team. “We are neighbors called to serve those in need. We want to thank Shop Rite of Warminster and the Cowhey family for their support of the 'Fill the Truck' event at their store. They are always here for our community and we are grateful.”

Area residents, business owners and shoppers were provided with a list of items needed at the store’s entrances. Donations of cash or Shop Rite gift cards will also be accepted.
