Fresh Connect Delivers Free Produce In Warminster

Giant Foods Store employees volunteered Tuesday for the effort to make fresh fruits and vegetables available to the needy in Bucks County.

WARMINSTER, PA — At a free farmer's market Tuesday in Warmisnter, Bucks County residents in need were able to get their hands on fresh fruits and vegetables thanks to an effort by local charities and volunteers.

Fresh Connect, funded by the United Way of Bucks County, brings fresh, healthy food to the hungry all year long. The market returns to the same three locations, in Warminster, Bristol and Ottsville, on the same day every week to make the produce available.

On Tuesday, local Giant Food Stores employees volunteered at Fresh Connect's Warminster location. They helped set up and distribute the produce and Giant also made a $1,050 donation to the United Way to support the Fresh Connect Collaborative.

It was the kickoff of the grocery chain's Season of Sharing in which employees volunteer and donate toward three main charitable missions — feeding the hungry, supporting children and supporting troops. According to Fresh Connect, 16 percent of those facing hunger in Bucks County are children.

Fresh Connect is a collaboration of Bucks County Opportunity Council, Philabundance, Rolling Harvest Food Rescue, and St. Mary Medical Center.
