Jamison Man Gets Jail For Fatal County Line Road DUI Crash

Witnesses told police they saw Mario Rivera, 30, dozing off in the car after the crash and slurring his words.

A Jamison man will serve up to 12 years in state prison for a DUI crash that killed a young Warrington man last summer.

Authorities say Mario B. Rivera, 30, was driving under the influence of drugs and without a license in the June 20 head-on crash that killed Gagonjot Sidhu, 23, of Warrington. Rivera pleaded guilty in February to multiple charges related to the crash at County Line and Kansas Roads in Warrington.

Authorities say Rivera was driving a Honda CRV when he collided head-on with a 2016 Honda Accord driven by Sidhu, who suffered numerous fractures and a ruptured aorta. Sidhu was taken to Abington Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Witnesses told police they saw Rivera dozing off in the car after the crash. He was also slurring his words when speaking, prosecutors with the District Attorney's office said. Blood tests showed that he had enough Xanax, morphine and Oxycodone in his system to significantly impair his ability to drive safely, the DA said.

Rivera had two previous DUIs on his record, including one when he was a juvenile.

Bucks County Common Pleas Court Judge Rea B. Boylan sentenced Rivera to four to 10 years for homicide by vehicle while DUI, a concurrent one to seven years for homicide by vehicle, a consecutive one to two years for causing a fatal accident while driving without a license, and a concurrent 90 days to two years for DUI. Boylan also fined Rivera $1,500 for DUI, and imposed lesser fines for driving with a suspended license and reckless driving.
