WARMINSTER, PA —Work continues at the new playground for Warminster Community Park with some new additions being installed recently as the parks and recreation department plans for a late May opening.

Several new elements were installed this past week and stone base work began in preparation for safety surfacing, the Warminster Township Parks and Recreation Department said.

"It's still a long way to go, but it's coming along nicely," parks officials stated on Facebook.

The department also wants to remind residents that they should not check out the new equipment since the site is an active construction zone.

"At this time, we're still on track for late May opening," the parks and recreation department said.

Township officials announced last August plans for the $350,000 new playground.

Township officials have dubbed the playground as a "generational project."

Jessica Fox, director of the Warminster Parks and Recreation Department, unveiled plans for a new $350,000 high-tech playground to replace the Hallowell Playground at Warminster Community Park at a Warminster Township Supervisors meeting last August.

That park had its grand opening in October 2003 and has served children well, but now conditions are starting to deteriorate, Fox said.

Fox worked with consultant Will Hemler of General Recreation Inc. to create a design plan that honors the town's history yet offers features that focus on inclusion for all children, including wheelchair ramps and other seats for those with disabilities.
