Living Well at Ann's Choice
Jennifer and Don Pullano note the community's active, social lifestyle keeps them busier--and happier--than ever

People who live in retirement communities are less lonely, more physically active, and more engaged than before they moved in, according to a June 2025 U.S. News & World Report survey.
That certainly holds true at Ann's Choice, an Erickson Senior Living community in Bucks County, Pa., where residents have plenty of opportunities to connect with neighbors through clubs, exercise classes, volunteer efforts, creative pursuits, and shared meals.
For Jennifer and Don Pullano, that sense of connection was a key factor in their decision to move to Ann's Choice in 2022.

'Community and activity'
Although they loved their three-story row house in Northeast Philadelphia, "We knew we couldn't have the retirement we wanted there," says Jennifer. "We were isolated. We wanted to live somewhere that offered community and activity."

So, the couple began exploring their senior living options in the area.
"Ann's Choice was the first community we visited, and every other one afterward didn't measure up," recalls Don. "Ann's Choice fit everything we were looking for."
Soon after settling in, the Pullanos discovered that life at Ann's Choice was even more vibrant and fulfilling than they'd imagined.
"We've met so many nice people and made wonderful friends," says Don. "It keeps you young! We don't spend much time in our apartment because there's always something to do."
Community Resources Manager Tina Ruzzi says she often hears similar sentiments from residents. "The array of clubs, fitness classes, and social events helps residents build meaningful connections. Shared interests make it easier to start conversations and deepen bonds over time."
Getting involved
Don and Jennifer enjoy competing in bocce, shuffleboard, and disc golf games--activities they never imagined trying before moving in.
"We were never this active before! Now, we're outside every day, playing games, meeting people, and just enjoying life. We try to join clubs that involve group effort," says Jennifer, naming the Baby Boomers, Veterans Auxiliary, Red Hat Ladies, photography, and pottery groups.
Don has found unexpected joy in volunteering with the community's audiovisual programs.
"I help with ACTV, our in-house TV station, which was something entirely new for me," he says. "I also read stories to residents who have vision issues. We meet several times a week, and it gives everyone a reason to get out, socialize, and have great discussions."
Ruzzi notes that groups and programs like these play an important role in overall well-being. "Having consistent opportunities to meet fosters a sense of belonging, which contributes to happiness and longevity," she explains.
To expand this positive impact, Don and Jennifer have even helped start a few clubs. "We revived the indoor bocce group and started a cornhole group with some neighbors," says Don.
"Most days, we're busy from morning until night, and that's just the way we like it," says Jennifer. "We're never bored or isolated. Those were the two things we absolutely wanted to avoid in retirement."
Time for what matters most
In addition to the vibrant social scene, the Pullanos appreciate the worry-free lifestyle that gives them time to focus on what matters most--their health and happiness.
"You don't have to do anything around the house," says Don, pointing to the expert General Services team that handles all maintenance requests in a timely manner. "And whatever we need is right here. Restaurants, a medical center, everything--it's all on campus."
Jennifer agrees, saying, "It's so easy. We can travel without worrying about home maintenance, and Ann's Choice even plans group trips for us! We've gone on local outings and have a cruise to Bermuda--with 20 of our neighbors--coming up."
Ruzzi says that convenience is another hallmark of life at Ann's Choice. "Residents can fill their calendars with activities, spend time volunteering, or take a trip and know their home is safe and cared for. That peace of mind lets them truly enjoy this chapter of life."
Don't wait!
Don and Jennifer encourage anyone considering Ann's Choice to move sooner rather than later.
"Moving when we did was the best decision we could have made," says Jennifer.
"Ann's Choice sets the bar high," adds Don. "It's active, it's social, and it's full of kindred spirits. We have something to look forward to every day."
