Local Artists Compete for Recognition at Warminster Library

Members of the Bucks Mont Art League brought their pieces before judge Jennifer Finch for critiquing and constructive tips to improve their efforts.

The Bucks-Mont Art League met Wednesday night at the Warminster Library for an all members’ art show.  Artist Jennifer Finch, who works as a teacher, muralist and art therapist, critiqued all of the works before judging the show and choosing winners. Finch was impressed with the artwork, remarking, “It takes a lot of courage and bravery to put your art on the wall.”

About 50 members attended the show at the library. There were two tiers judged, beginner artists and experienced artists. The third place winner for the beginners, Eileen Kaufman, began painting soon after entering retirement. Kaufman’s painting of the Adare Castle in Ireland was only her first attempt at creating such a piece of art.

“I never took an art lesson in my life. I find it relaxing, and I really enjoy it,” Kaufman said.

Also in the beginner tier, second place winner Ann Hurley only joined the league three years ago. Hurley said, “It’s nice when [The Bucks-Mont Art League does] all member shows because I’ve never been judged before.”

Kaufman added, “It’s always helpful to know what you can do to make improvements.”

Next, the experienced artists' artwork was critiqued and judged. Sue Brown, first place winner, meshed together meaningful elements into her art piece.

“I enjoy pastels, still life, and landscape,” Brown said, explaining her inspiration for her piece, which featured her grandmother’s old vase.

Erika Appleby, second place winner, found her inspiration for her painting in her granddaughter. She has been painting for 35 years.

When asked about the Bucks-Mont Art League, third place winner – Linda Grafius says she enjoys, “the camaraderie, the different approaches, and different styles of painting.  I like that all of the members are willing to share their point of view.”

Brown will be the guest speaker at the next meeting, on November 16th from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Warminster Library.  The Bucks-Mont Art League meets on the third Wednesday of every month (except December, which will meet on the 14th) at the Warminster Library.
