WARRINGTON, PA — A 76-year-old man, formerly of Warrington, is behind bars in connection with the 1981 disappearance and death of his wife.

The arrest of William Walter Korzon marks a dramatic development in the case, which is considered the biggest "cold case" in Warrington's history. Warrington Township Police announced his arrest on Thursday.

Korzon's wife, Gloria Korzon, has been missing for 39 years and was officially declared dead in 1997.

William Korzon is being held without bail, police said, charged with criminal homicide, manslaughter by negligence, criminal homicide-murder and non-negligent manslaughter, criminal solicitation to commit homicide, forgery and perjury.

Warrinton Police Chief Daniel Friel said Thursday that investigative work remains to be done in the case. As such, Friel said, police were not releasing extensive details about the charges against Korzon, who had been living in East Prospect.

Friel commended the work of the township's detectives, particularly Detective Bernard Schaffer, the Bucks County District Attorney's office and Bucks County detectives.

"There was a lot of time and effort and a great amount of team work from everyone involved to bring this case to the point we are at today," Friel said. "This is a big day for Gloria's family who lost her about 39 years ago."
