PHILADELPHIA, PA — Maybe the magic just ran out. Maybe the Monday rainout rained on their potential World Series parade. Maybe the Philadelphia Phillies just lost to the better team.

Whatever that Maybe may be, this magical playoff run fizzled when the Houston Astros struck World Series gold with a rocket over the center field fence in Game 6, handing them a legitimate World Series win.

The bats basically went silent after Tuesday’s home home run barrage for the Phillies.

The momentum from that frenzied victory at Citizens Bank Park faded fast when the Astros came back and no hit the Phillies. They never recovered.

It’s difficult to be on the losing end of the World Series. The Phillies have been there and done that in 1950, 1983, 1993 and 2009.

This one may hurt the most. This team got hot at the right time and connected with just the right amount of chemistry to drive them through playoff wins over the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta Braves and San Diego Padres.

This wound will take time to heal. It’s hard to be critical but the team didn’t deliver at the biggest moment. The hits stopped coming. Only Bryce Harper and Kyle Schwarber stayed the course.

So this magical playoff carpet ride will leave us with rug burns for a little while.

We will lick our wounds and shift focus to the undefeated Philadelphia Eagles.

But we will remember how this slow season finished strong. We will remember Harper’s Heroics.

Maybe next year.
