Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued Across Philadelphia Region

EASTERN PENNSYLVANIA—Several Eastern Pennsylvania counties are under a severe thunderstorm watch until Friday evening.

The National Weather Service issued the watch for Bucks, Montgomery, Chester, Montgomery, Delaware and Philadelphia counties.

The watch is in effect from 11:05 a.m. to 6 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service, a severe thunderstorm watch indicates that "severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. Stay informed and be ready to act if a severe thunderstorm warning is issued." A severe thunderstorm warning, alternatively, indicates that residents should take action and seek shelter immediately.

Here’s the latest forecast around Pennsylvania, per the National Weather Service:

Friday: A chance of showers and thunderstorms, then showers and possibly a thunderstorm after 2 p.m. Some storms could be severe, with large hail and damaging winds. High near 80. South wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90 percent. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.

Friday Night: Showers and thunderstorms likely, mainly before 1am. Patchy fog before 4 a.m., then patchy fog after 5 a.m. Otherwise, mostly cloudy, with a low around 60. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming northwest after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Saturday: A slight chance of showers between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Mostly cloudy, then gradually becoming sunny, with a high near 81. Northwest wind around 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20 percent.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 56. Northwest wind around 5 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 83. Northwest wind 5 to 10 mph.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 57.
