Joseph and Philomena Santucci opened the first Santucci’s Pizza in their home on “O” Street in the Juniata Park section of Northeast Philadelphia in 1959, according to the restaurant's website.

From 1959 to 1993, its signature square pizza, with sauce placed on top of fresh mozzarella cheese, became a beloved Philadelphia staple as an unconventional alternative to traditional pizza.

Other locations then opened.

In 1993, the family's daughter Teresa Santucci, along with her husband Gene, opened their first location on Cottman Avenue in the Mayfair section of Northeast Philadelphia.

In 1996, they opened a second location on Tyson Avenue in Northeast Philadelphia.

Then, in 2015, Teresa and Gene’s son, Nicky, joined the family business and relocated the Tyson Avenue store to Warminster.

In 2019, Teresa Santucci added “Philomena” to her business name to honor her mother for Santucci’s 60th anniversary.
