WARMINSTER, PA —Organizers hope to fill the Warminster Food Bank with a summer food drive collection on Saturday.

ShopRite Supermarket of Warminster and the Warrington Lions Club are teaming up for the food collection drive to benefit Warminster Food Bank on Saturday, June 1, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. (rain or shine) at the ShopRite Supermarket of Warminster at 942 W. Street Rd.

The items collected will be donated to individuals and families experiencing food insecurity.

Area residents are invited to participate and shoppers will be provided with a list of items needed at the store’s entrances.

The food drive is especially important since schools will be closing for the summer in a few weeks and that means the end of school lunches for students, organizers said.

For families dealing with food insecurity, school lunches help to stretch their food budgets and when school is not in session, many families are faced with having to make difficult choices between food and other necessities.

Items collected at this event will help to bridge the summer food gap for these families. Donations of cash or ShopRite gift cards will also be accepted.

Members of the Warrington Lions Club and volunteers from the Food Bank will be on hand to work with ShopRite employees and customers to collect non-perishable food items. The items collected will be provided to people in need in local communities.

Warminster Food Bank serves more than 12,000 people a year in Bucks and Montgomery counties.

“The Lions are delighted to work with Warminster Food Bank on this food drive,” said Kathleen Beveridge, president of the Warrington Lions Club. “Many local families face food insecurity every day. As Lions Club members, we strive to serve the needs of the communities in which we live. If there is an opportunity to ease the burden for our neighbors in need, we want to help.”

“Food insecurity doesn’t take the summer off,” said Mike Cerino, director of the Warminster Food Bank. “We hope the community will rally together for our summer food drive and make donations of non-perishable food items and groceries to help people in our community when they need it the most.”
