WARMINSTER, PA —Tesla's plans to open its first store in Bucks County did not happen by the end of the year as the company had hoped.

When the project was first pitched early last year, Tesla told township officials that the company wanted the dealership open by the end of December.

However, there were some stops and starts due to issues the township raised with the company during the construction period that slowed progress. After a short work stoppage in May to resolve some issues, the project to open at the old Pathmark property on York Road got back on its fast track.

Township officials told Patch this week, though, that while construction was in the home stretch last month and Tesla was expected to open before Christmas, the opening didn't happen.

Township Zoning Officer Mike Italia said that Warminster has issued Tesla a certificate of occupancy, but that the store is waiting for approval with a license from the state.

No date has been announced for the opening, Italia said.

The Tesla dealership would be the first in Bucks County. Tesla has stores in King of Prussia, Devon, and Lawrence, N.J.

The project's cost is estimated between $6-8 million.

The 56,000-square-foot building sits on 9 acres across the street from Archbishop Wood High School and near Street Road. It had been considered by Lidl for another grocery store.

Its operating hours would be 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, and closed Sunday.
