The Saturday standoff at the Knights Inn in Bensalem ended with one man dead and two in custody, police said.

A man suspected in a double homicide in North Carolina prompted a standoff at a Bensalem motel Saturday afternoon after a hitchhiker he picked up led police to the Knights Inn, according to authorities.

Police later located Lloyd Wayne Franklin, 34, inside room 142 with an fatal self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, authorities said.

When the officers arrived at the room, they said someone inside began shooting at them. Officers left the room and did not fire back, according to Bensalem Police. The Bucks County South SWAT Team responded and eventually got into the room, arresting two suspects.

In addition to Franklin, authorities located two people inside the room, later identified as James Miller and Jennifer Lanning.

Miller has an active Pennsylvania warrant for parole violation and will be sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility. Authorities believe the couple picked up Miller, who was hitchhiking.

Police later discovered that Franklin and Lanning both had active arrests warrants out of Davidson County, North Carolina for homicide.

Authorities say they had been on the lam since Oct. 28 in connection with the deaths of Davie Lee McSwain, 82, and his wife, Joan McSwain, 78, after an apparent home invasion and robbery, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.

Bensalem and Bucks County Detectives are currently investigating and working with authorities in North Carolina. Lanning was scheduled to be arraigned and sent to the Bucks County Correctional Facility.
