Warminster Police Targeting York Road

WARMINSTER, PA — Efforts to increase safety along a dangerous patch of York Road in Warminster are continuing, with police saying they're ramping up enforcement in the area.

The announcement comes after Warminster officials met with PennDOT about the stretch of York Road between County Line Road and Henry Avenue, where they say there have been more than 160 crashes in the past five years.

On Monday, police said they've begun "an aggressive traffic enforcement program" in the area in an attempt to reduce accidents. They say that driver speed and actions turning onto and off of the many side streets in that area are major contributors to the crashes.

"In the upcoming months, officers will be detailed in this area to enforce speeding and illegal turning movements of vehicles," police said in a community news message from the township.

Last week, Warminster officials announced that, along with PennDOT, they've planned safety improvements for York Road.

The plan includes the addition of rumble strips on both sides of the center-left turn lanes, dotted lines through side-street intersections, additional road pavement markings and the replacement of speed-limit signs with much larger signs.

The work is scheduled to be completed by this summer.

Future improvements also could include digital signs informing motorists of their current speed and larger side-street signs for increased visibility and awareness, he said.

Officials say the large number of businesses and side streets in a roughly one-mile stretch of York Road contribute to the trouble.
