Warminster Woman Headed To Jail For Collecting Dead Mother's Social Security

Kelly Ellen Liebert collected her mother's Social Security payments for nine months after her death, authorities say.

A Warminster woman who collected her mother's Social Security for nine months after her death and used the funds for Jersey Shore vacations and cash withdrawals has been sentenced to serve two to five years in state prison, the Bucks County District Attorney said.

Kelly Ellen Liebert, 39, of the 1300 block of Nevarc Road, was sentenced after pleading guilty to identity theft, forgery, theft by deception, bad checks and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Liebert admitted to authorities that after her mother died in September 2015, she continued to receive her monthly Social Security payments through May 2016. She collected $13,048 during that time, the Bucks County District Attorney's office said, and spent the money as soon as it landed in the account, authorities said.

After her mother died, Liebert called the bank where the funds were deposited and, pretending to be her mother, asked that the contact number for the account be changed to Liebert’s phone.

"When the credit union learned of the scam and confronted her months later, Liebert again tried to impersonate her mother before professing that she thought she was entitled to the benefits," according to information from the Bucks County District Attorney's office.
