William Tennent Player Sets All-Time Scoring Record
Kirby Mooney broke a high school basketball scoring record set in 2002. His coach was there for that record as well.

WARMINSTER, PA —Robert Mulville is proud of his player. He's proud of all of his players.
But this one set a record that stood for more than 20 years.
William Tennent High School Senior Kirby Mooney broke the Boys Basketball Team's All-Time scoring record recently against New Hope-Solebury. The record had not been broken since 2002.

Mooney, who is also ranked in the Top 10 percent of his class, has played on the Varsity Team all four years of his high school career.
Mulville said that Mooney has been the leading scorer on his team and in his league for the past three years. He was part of the league championship team last year and has helped the team reach the playoffs the past 2 years.

"His approach to the record was secondary," the coach told Patch. "His focus was trying to repeat as league champions and although we were not able to do that this year, his approach then turned to finish the season strong so we could make district playoffs, which we did."
Mulville said he believed that Mooney knew that if he played well, the team would have a better chance at winning and the scoring record would take care of itself.
Mulville said that the game where Mooney broke the record was "somewhat uneventful."
"I said something to him before the game that we would stop the game and recognize him," the coach said. "At first, he said there was no need to and I reminded him that it was a huge milestone, and so he went with it. To be honest, I think he would be ok if we just kept right on playing. He knows he plays a big role in what happens with our team, but his actions show a very humble side where sees himself as part of a bigger picture of things that we want to accomplish."
Mulville said that both of Mooney's scoring accomplishments occurred when the team was playing not at home.
At Upper Moreland High School, Mooney scored his 1,000th point and New Hope was where he broke the record, the coach said.
"We were able to recognize him in front of our home crowd at our next home games for each milestone," Mulville said.
Mulville said he saw the last record set as well.
He was an assistant coach when Frank Moultrie set the record in 2002.
"For me, it has been very special to be a part of both their accomplishments, but especially Kirby's," the coach said. "Their careers are somewhat similar in the fact that both are part of league championship teams, they are both very unselfish with the ball, they both lead their team in assists, they are both great foul shooters and they both can elevate their teams to accomplish things that not many other teams were able to do."
