1 In Custody After Racist Death Threats At West Chester East: Cops

"If you guys come to school tomorrow, you will die," the post threatened, saying the violence would occur on September 11.

WEST CHESTER, PA — One student is in custody after a social media post made racially-charged death threats against several specific students at West Chester East High School, police and the school district confirmed.

Police first became aware of the threats on Sunday night, which were posted on Instagram and were directed at numerous African-American, Hispanic, and Caucasian freshman students.

The post threatened that the violence would occur on Monday.

"Based on the interview and the subject's statement, the West Goshen Township Police Department feels that there is no threat of violence from this person," the department said in a statement.

It's unclear what, if any, charges will be filed. The Chester County District Attorney's Office is now handling the investigation.

"Unfortunately, the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks often brings similar threats of violence at schools and other places where large numbers of people are gathered. As with any threat, we investigate fully and continue to enforce our safety and security procedures and policies to ensure everyone is as safe as possible," said Kevin Fagan, the principal of West Chester East High School.

The school district said that out of an abundance of caution, there were additional police patrolling campus on Monday.
