Borough to Vote on Parking Ordinance
West Chester Borough Council will vote on a parking ordinance to make the 400 block of East West Miner Street a permit only zone on Wednesday.

The will vote on its first ordinance of the year Wednesday as it determines whether or not the 400 block of West Miner Street should become a permit-parking zone.
The residents of Miner Street petitioned the borough to make the street a permit-parking zone because of congestion due to the streets proximity to the county offices on Market Street.
According to council member Cassandra Jones, the county provides parking for 900 of its 1150 employees leaving the remaining 250 workers to fend for themselves.

Council voted 4-3 last month to put the ordinance on the January agenda. If the ordinance passes, it then becomes law.
“This is a micro solution to a macro problem,” Council Member John Manion said at last month’s meeting. “It’s like squeezing a balloon. They’re all just going to move up to the next block.”

“Why don’t we just make the whole town permit parking?” said Manion. “Is that what we want? I don’t know the answer, but the question is worth asking.”
The borough council meeting where the vote will take place will be on Wednesday, Jan. 18, starting at 7 p.m. at the borough hall.
