Democrat Dianne Herrin Holds Sturdy Lead Over Len Iacono

Herrin's lead over Republican Iacono has grown as Chester County's ballot county nears an end.

WEST CHESTER, PA — Chester County's updated ballot counts show Democrat Dianne Herrin ahead of Republican Len Iacona by nearly 11 percentage points in the race to represent Pennsylvania's 156th House District.

As of Friday night, Herrin had 4,130 more votes that Iacono.

Chester County announced Friday night it had finished counting all ballots in its possession and would on Monday morning resume reviewing and tabulating "additional pre-canvass, canvass, computation, and provisional ballots."

Herrin, who is mayor of West Chester Borough, had 55.28 percent of the counted vote, with 21,619 votes after Friday night's update, according to the state elections returns webpage.

Republican opponent Iacona had 44.72 percent of the counted vote this afternoon, garnering 17,489 votes.

Pennsylvania's 156th House District includes West Chester, Westtown, Birmingham, East Goshen, and Thornbury townships and the north section of West Goshen Township in Chester County.

Chester County's Elections Office reported Thursday morning it had worked 24-hours-a-day after polls closed to count votes, and had tallied all in-person and mail-in ballots received by Thursday.

The county awaited the receipt of ballots that have been postmarked on Election Day and reported at 8:30 p.m. Friday it had county all of those.

The Pennsylvania state VotesPa website shows that mail-in ballots were request by voters registered as Democrats in numbers almost three times that of mail-in ballots requested by Republican Party-registered voters.

Chester County's voter turnout was tallied at 81.88 percent by the end of the week. Chester County's 380,388 registered voters cast 280,430 ballots on Nov. 3, according to the state's county elections page.

Herrin's campaign focused on the common good.

"I am running to lead our Commonwealth down a sustainable path that reduces reliance on the gas industry, pipelines, and dirty energy. I am running to ensure our policies reflect our values, and that we prioritize infrastructure, our local economy, and fair financing of public schools," Herrin said on her campaign page. "As Mayor of West Chester, I have used these skills and improved upon them, as I have proudly served my community."

Iacono ran as a pro-life candidate and "devoted family man."

"I am a former board member of the Pro Life Union of PA and the Chester County Pro Life Coalition, serving in the past as President of the latter for over three years. I have been a member of the Knights of Columbus for over 15 years and am currently a 4th Degree Knight," he wrote on his campaign page.

Iacono is also a U.S. Army veteran and a small business owner.
