I said last week that we're settling into a "dog days of summer" situation here at West Chester Patch. This week we had stories about a new borough map and land development plans. Something exciting needs to happen quick.
Soccer is Exciting
Well, I think it is. The U.S. Women's World Cup team takes on upstart Japan on Sunday at 2 p.m. We'll see if the gutsy U.S. team can get a handle on the possession-minded Japanese. The U.S. struggled for awhile against France who likes to dominate the ball like the Japanese. However, the French don't have the finishers up front like Japan. Regardless, the game should be a lot of fun.

Also, I was 14-years-old the last time the women won the World Cup. I remember it being a big deal at the time, but I was also 14 and everything seemed like a big deal. Is this something people remember? Do they remember it fondly?

The final Harry Potter movie came out on Thursday, but I won't have a chance to see it until this weekend. I have to admire how well they managed to pull off this series. Can you imagine if the first two had been terrible and Warner Borther's decided to pull the plug?
I'll tip my hat though to the creative team behind these movies. There was a definite artistic evolution to the movies that meshed well with how the characters evolved in the books. It would've been easy to make a series of movies where "wizards blow stuff up real good" (a fitting tagline for the Transformers series if you replace wizards with robots), but they committed to the characters and the story.
Turks Head
I've posted this twice in stories this week, but the Turks Head Music Festival is this Sunday. I've never been, but I plan to head out to see what it's all about. I'm hoping for hippies and hacky-sack.
On this Day in History
On July 15, 1799, French soldiers in Egypt found the Rosetta Stone. Before it became an irritating infomercial to teach your mom Spanish, the Rosetta Stone was crucial in the discovery of how to translate Egyptian Hyroglifics.
Always the Weather
The high for Friday is 86, and Saturday and Sunday both have a high of 88. That's not too bad, but it's still hot. I know it's summer, and complaining about the heat is lame. But seriously, heat, go away.
