GIANT Food Stores Donates $19,049 to West Chester Food Cupboard

GIANT FOOD STORES DONATES $19,049 TO WEST CHESTER FOOD CUPBOARD THROUGH BAG HUNGER CAMPAIGN

On Friday, September 21, the staff of the West Chester Food Cupboard and GIANT Food Stores celebrated a successful Bag Hunger Campaign with a $19,049 check presentation and volunteer project at West Chester Food Cupboard.

The Bag Hunger Campaign ran from August 28 thru September 8 across all 171 GIANT Food Stores with a grand total of $773,231collected from all stores. GIANT Food Store customers donated to their local food bank during checkout through the Bag Hunger in-store campaign. Funds collected will go to different food banks and over 100 pantries across the market served by GIANT Food Stores. The Bag Hunger Campaign is only one of many ways that GIANT Food Stores supports West Chester Food Cupboard’s mission to end hunger in the region.

The West Chester Food Cupboard commits to provide a variety of fresh and nonperishable healthy food items to West Chester residents in need…because no one should go hungry. The organization is run by volunteers with no paid staff. We have approximately 1,100 registered households that are eligible to use our service once a month and are provided about two weeks’ worth of groceries. Many households utilize our services every month and others less than that; on average we serve approximately 600 households a month.
