Guilty Until Proven Innocent

Can you spare just 5 minutes to help free Taner Kiliç? Detained since June 6, this dedicated human rights champion and chair of Amnesty International Turkey now stands in desperate need of defense. His fellow human rights advocates, known as the Istanbul 10, were freed on bail on October 26. Taner, however, remains imprisoned on unsubstantiated charges of terrorism.

In the words of Salil Shetty, Amnesty International’s Secretary General, “The twin hands of Turkey's fickle justice system are at play: one grants liberty, the other takes it away…. Turkish authorities have repeatedly and publicly presumed Taner Kılıç’s guilt, on the basis of innuendo and unsupported allegations.”
