Vitollo was inspired by the flowers in her mother’s garden in West Chester as well as the science data and sustainability ethics from her Environmental Sciences course at West Chester University in 2007.

The florals were completed at her Yaddo Residency in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., and in her Brooklyn, N.Y., studio.

The artist describes her painting process for the florals as optimistic.

“I require an inherent optimism, fearlessness, focus, and self-trust in the act of making the painting within a limited timeframe,” she said. “ A sense of courage is required as an artist and as the planet, particularly my generation, faces global environmental challenges and reconsideration of current economic models.”
