CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Local authorities are warning of letters sent by scammers pretending to be with the IRS.

The fake letters typically target senior citizens, and allege a significant balance due to the IRS.

Officials with the Chester County Sheriff's Office said that a clear way to tell if a letter is a scam is if it asks for payment to be made out to the IRS.

If it was real, it would say the United States Treasury, officials said.
