Kids “4” Kids Club to Hold Annual Charity Yard Sale

Bargains galore to be had at this Saturday's yard sale in West Chester, with all the proceeds going to charity.

It started out simply enough. Collect unwanted items from family and friends, hold a yard sale to hawk those wares, and donate the earnings to charity. That was in 2013, when then 9-year-old Molly Dolan of West Chester started a club called Kids “4” Kids. The effort raised a few hundred dollars for local charities that year.

Fast forward to today, and Kids “4” Kids has raised over $3400 since that initial yard sale. Last year, after Kids “4” Kids expanded and grew into a service club at Peirce Middle School, it raised over $2400 at its charity yard sale in 2016. Dolan and her classmates at Peirce are at it again, and will hold their largest Kids “4” Kids yard sale yet on Saturday, May 20, from 8AM – 1PM at 1084 Forest Road in West Chester.

Shoppers will have the opportunity to pick up bargains on hundreds of items, including: baby gear and strollers, toys, sports equipment, video games, electronics, CDs, bikes, books, board games, outdoor toys, furniture, and countless other household items. All items will be priced as “pay what you feel is fair,” virtually guaranteeing all visitors will walk away having scored a great deal. The yard sale will also have a festival feel to it, with a lemonade stand, baked goods for sale, and a moon bounce donated by Boing! Bounce Rentals of Media. Students also solicited other local businesses to support the event, and those contributing to the event include Giant (Bradford Plaza in West Chester), Acme, and The Pretzel Factory (West Chester).

Dolan, a 7th grade student at Peirce Middle School, and her classmates in the Kids “4” Kids Club have held frequent meetings throughout the year, working on various activities to help other children in need and planning for the group’s big yard sale fundraiser. They have spent the past month gathering donations for the yard sale from their families, friends, and neighbors. This year, the students decided on four charities which will receive funds raised at the yard sale: The Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children (West Chester); Special Olympics; The Dax Locke Foundation, and No Stomach for Cancer.

The Peirce students of Kids “4” Kids hope their yard sale will be its most successful yet, helping raise funds to ensure that these wonderful organizations can continue to help others.
