Melton Center Gala, "Save the Barclay" and other events

Save the Barclay Grounds Fundraiser A Free "Pop-up" Art Show, and more.... this Weekend

Come out and Support Two Community Events this Weekend, May 16th and 17th

There are many events going on including the annual Chester County Studio Tour (http://chestercountystudiotour.com/) but I would like to highlight two community events that benefit our beautiful borough.

One benefits the Melton Center, the historic community center at 516 Market Street . (It’s expansive grounds can be seen on the right as you leave the borough via Market Street).

The wonderful painting on the header here is by Dane Tilghman, one of the featured artists in my book, 100 Artists of the Brandywine Valley.

Dane is one of two featured speakers of the Melton Center’s 2015 Gala Kick-Off celebration this Saturday. ( The “kick-off” is designed to bring awareness to the center’s main fundraiser this fall.)

Walter Naegle, longtime partner of the late civil rights activist, Bayard Rustin, has also been confirmed as the Honorary guest and speaker.

The evening begins at 6 p.m.

A “Pop-up” Art show and sale will also take place on Saturday, Dec. 16th from 9 to 5 p.m. and Sunday, 10 to 2 pm.

I will be selling my walking tour book, “Walking the East End” featured here. Free walking tour of the “East End” will take place at 12 noon ad 1 p.m. on Sunday. I join numerous other artists including Priscilla Bohlen, whose work is shown here.

The other event benefits the “Save The Barclay Grounds,” the community nonprofit group that saved the historic Barclay grounds from development. Pictured here is Mayor Carolyn Comitta, who presented a personal sponsorship “check” to Bret Binder and Arlene Rengert, the co-chairs of the “Spring Celebration” event.

Details are below

“Save The Barclay Grounds” 2015 Spring Celebration

A vintage event at West Chester’s historic Windon Hall, a residence built in 1710 with an addition by noted architect Frank Furness from 1882.

In addition to wines selected by Collier’s of Centreville and beers provided by Iron Hill Restaurant and Brewery, the evening features as a signature drink the “Barclay Grounder Old Fashioned” and fine light fare from varied restaurants and caterers.
