The new Chesco Board of Commissioners has notified the Department of State that they plan to continue to allow refugee resettlement locally.

WEST CHESTER, PA — The new-look Chester County Board of Commissioners has notified the Department of State that they plant to continue to allow refugee resettlement in the county.

The news came in the form of a letter sent by Marian Moskowitz, Chair of the Board, to Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.

"I consent to initial refugee resettlement in any assenting municipalities within the county," the letter reads. "I understand my written consent will be publicly released by the Department of State."

The letter does not indicate any change in existing policy, as the county was never in a state of not accepting refugees.

It's one of the early moves of the new Democrat-led Chester County government, the first in history.

Several county municipalities have also issued similar letters and statements in support of the letter.
