New Scholarship Offered for High School Seniors with Hearing Loss
First annual scholarship awarded for a high school senior with hearing loss.
Recognizing the need to encourage post-secondary education among the high school population with hearing loss, the Hearing Loss Association of America-Chester County Chapter (HLAA-Chester County) is awarding its first annual college scholarship to Liana Gilleland of Pottstown. This scholarship is being initiated and funded by Dr. Judith Curtin, AD. It is her desire that this becomes an annual event and that by her example other professionals in the field of hearing loss and ASL device vendors may expand this to an even great annual event and perhaps to more recipients.
Miss Gilleland is the daughter of Lori and Robert Gilleland and is a graduating senior at Owen J. Roberts High School in Pottstown. She will be attending Montgomery County Community College and plans to major in special education. She will be presented with the check at the HLAA-Chester County Annual Ice Cream Social on June 7 at 7:00 at Christ Community Church, 1190 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester.
HLAA is the nation’s largest consumer advocacy organization for people with hearing loss and is dedicated to providing information, education, support and advocacy to enable those with hearing loss to live full and productive lives. The Chester County chapter meets the 2nd Wednesday of the month, September through June, from 7-8:30 pm at Christ Community Church, 1190 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester. The meetings are open to the community and supported by CART and Hearing Loop System.
