Problem Intersection In Downtown West Chester Will Be 'Significantly Improved'
The corner of Gay Street and High Street has drawn the ire of visitors and residents alike.
WEST CHESTER, PA — Officials in West Chester say that a problem intersection in the middle of downtown will be "significantly improved" by work that is planned in the coming year.
The area near the intersection of Gay Street and High Street has drawn concerns from both visitors and residents alike, with concerns about traffic, speeding, unauthorized vehicles entering closed off areas, and more.
Last month, construction began on road bollards that would allow officials to easily block of traffic for the Open Air Market. The bollards will close off the road from High Street to Darlington Avenue, while still allowing emergency vehicles to have access if needed.

Ward 3 Councilman Brian McGinnis said that following completion of the current work, a "full upgrade" for the intersection with High Street would get underway.
"The new design will be more durable while maintaining the historic character of downtown West Chester, and will significantly improve the look and feel of the area," McGinnis said.
